The administration that comes with a company
Every GmbH and AG must keep proper books and prepare annual accounts (Art. 957 CO), and keep books and vouchers for ten years (Art. 958f CO). It pays federal profit tax of 8.5% on net profit (Art. 68 DBG) plus cantonal and municipal tax, and it must register for VAT once its turnover from taxable supplies, in Switzerland and abroad, reaches CHF 100'000 a year (Art. 10 MWSTG).
With the Frontrunner package, we take care of this together with selected partners: set-up and ongoing bookkeeping, payroll with withholding tax and social insurance, periodic VAT returns, annual accounts and the tax return. We advise you, explain requirements and deadlines and accompany the set-up that suits your business model: with many transactions, fully automated bookkeeping often makes sense; with few transactions and more need for advice, personal support is usually the better fit. Tax advice comes from external specialists. In the city of Zug, the effective profit tax for 2026 is 11.71%, the second lowest of all cantonal capitals after Lucerne (KPMG, Clarity on Swiss Taxes 2026).

What is the corporate tax rate in Zug?
For 2026, KPMG puts the effective profit tax in the city of Zug at 11.71%, combining federal, cantonal and municipal tax (Clarity on Swiss Taxes 2026). That is the second lowest of all cantonal capitals, after Lucerne at 11.66%; in 2025, Zug ranked first with 11.85%. The cantonal tax multiplier is 78% for the years 2026 to 2029.
Is Zug a tax haven?
Zug is a low-tax canton within Swiss law. Every company pays federal profit tax of 8.5% on net profit (Art. 68 DBG), plus cantonal and municipal tax. Groups with worldwide turnover of at least EUR 750 million pay at least 15% under the OECD minimum tax, applied in Switzerland since 2024. And since 1 October 2026, companies report their beneficial owners to the federal Transparency Register.
When does a Swiss company have to register for VAT?
As soon as it earns CHF 100'000 or more a year from taxable supplies, counting turnover in Switzerland and abroad; below that, it is exempt (Art. 10 para. 2 MWSTG). The standard rate is 8.1% and the reduced rate 2.6% (Art. 25 MWSTG). If your company is liable, we handle the registration and prepare the periodic VAT returns.
What does accounting for a GmbH cost?
With us, the Frontrunner package starts at CHF 579 a month. It covers bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns, the annual accounts and the tax return, and it builds on the Base package with your registered office in Zug. The final price is adapted to your company and agreed up front. Tax questions go to external specialists we work with.
Can I do the bookkeeping for my GmbH myself?
Yes. The law sets the duties, not who carries them out. A GmbH or AG must keep full books and prepare annual accounts (Art. 957 para. 1 CO). Simplified income and expense accounting is reserved for smaller sole proprietorships and partnerships with turnover below CHF 500'000, and for certain associations and foundations (Art. 957 para. 2 CO). Books and vouchers must be kept for ten years (Art. 958f CO).
